That doesn’t sound like the most interesting premise for a game, at least not until time travel is introduced. Unlike most role playing games, Chrono is set in peaceful times and the end of the world is not an imminent threat. Perhaps the most revolutionary aspect of _Chrono Trigge_r was the story. The problem was Chrono Trigger did everything so well, that there was little room for improvement. The experiments were so successful that they were found in countless future RPGs, particularly those in the early 3D era. Chrono Trigger almost seemed like an experiment. The staples of previous RPGs were present, as the story was sweeping, the characters memorable and the gameplay balanced but there were new conventions that did not exist in Square’s previous titles. Final Fantasy VI was a natural extension of Final Fantasy IV, improving upon it in just about every way while retaining the core attributes that made the games memorable and great.Ĭhrono Trigger went a step further. At the time, Square was notorious for taking what worked in previous games and making it better.

It didn’t really do anything that hadn’t been done before, but the execution was nearly flawless. FFVI was the pinnacle of the old school RPG, featuring an epic story, unique characters, and a robust combat system. In December 1994, Square released Final Fantasy VI, otherwise known as Final Fantasy III in the United States. Chrono Trigger was the best of the old and the pioneer of the new and is widely regarded as one of the best RPGs of all time. In 1995, Square released a game that not only exemplified the very best characteristics of Final Fantasy but also employed new conventions that would be used in future role playing games. The most fondly remembered Final Fantasies were released during this time as well as other hits like The Secret of Mana. I am Rockhard for Semisoft haha. There was a period of time between 19 when many believed that Square could do no wrong. Encore! Encore! If they decide to keep this style of gaming going I will most certainly be supporting/donating to those projects.

For Semisoft studio's first attempt at a full length magical adventure they really outdid themselves. It has been added to my very small list of outstanding RPG's. That would have added a more chilling effect. Or like some mumbling rumble sounds when the Roshua tree was speaking. Maybe make the screen shake during that roar too.

The mother of the forest for example makes a screaming emote but theres no roar sound or screaming. And lastly would be more sound effects, like bosses roaring and stuff like that. I would have liked to see a little more explorations in towns and cities, more houses or rooms you can enter, shops and inns as well. The npc's need a different script after events have unfolded, like in Ostia where the npc's are still talking about the tournament. The grammatical errors need a little work. Irregardless! Job well done!! My only complains are very small. I would have loved to hear a little more FFIX type sounds. I could definitely hear Legend of Dragoon in there and I appreciate the use of flutes, strings, and other medieval/renaissance sounds. The soundtrack and the human chorus elements are just so so so good. The 3D video shorts (like when you meet a new charcter) are simply perfect. I loved the challenges you face there as well. Gwenelle forest for example is full of beauty and mystery. You will definitely find yourself waiting the few seconds for the screen to zoom out to the full view of areas. The hand drawn scenes, lighting and rendered overlays are gorgeous. The story is magical and mysterious which is exactly what keeps me hooked. It makes the writing even more fun to read. I also loved the different dialects throughout the lands. The script is written so well despite the grammatical errors. I love that this game even made my mind go there. Lucia before the tree is freaking nuts, I kept hearing her voice as Lysa Arryn from Game of Thrones. Never hyper, disingenuous, or annoying like with anime writing. The characters convey real emotions, they question life like real humans do, and have big personalities.

As your attacks upgrade throughout the game the details become more grand and just cool to watch, such as Eris's magic. The turned based system is fun and doesn't get boring. I absolutely love this game! It's up there with my favorite RPG's of all time such as FFIX and Legend of Dragoon. I absolutely love this game!
